That’s astounding! It’s just another example of the fact that life is about experiencing the spectrum. Those who focus only on the differences in religious traditions blind them selves from their fundamental similarities. In my opinion, if you go deep enough into any religion you will start to see that the thing you worship is everything, everywhere, and everyone. So often I hear scientist, materialist and atheist calling for the end of religion. So many people believe that religion does more harm than good in our world, and they make the claim that religion is responsible for more human bloodshed than any other cause in history. This is a misunderstanding however. Religions are beliefs systems about the fundamental nature of the universe, life, existence and culture. They are all used to orient individuals in their societies in a way that promotes social peace, prosperity and harmony. Sure there are a few minor statements here and there in some religions that would refute that, but by in large, religions are about finding peace in the chaos of life. When wars are fought, they are not fought for the sake of religion. No one goes and starts a war in the name of their supreme deity, if they truly understand the nature of it. Wars are fought for control of territory, resources, and social status, not for the glory of god. The wise political leaders merely use the frame work of religions to ignite and manipulate the masses for there own unholy causes. Religion in and of it’s self has little to do with these wars. Religion is a cultural tool that allows us to relate the finite with the infinite, the known an the unknowable. Too few people ever truly penetrate the superficial aspects of their religion to experience the infinite and that’s the ultimate purpose. When you get to that point, differences dissolve. The world around you and all who dwell in it become worthy of your respect, compassion and love. Unfortunately, the modern religions are designed for ancient worlds and ancient minds. They are culturally disconnected from the modern follower. So we find it harder to go beyond any superficial understanding. Don’t get me wrong, the truth which they convey is timeless, but the packaging of that truth is not.
We claim one religion or the other, largely based on what our environment projects on us as children. We feel that in order to live rightly, or to be a good person, you must follow the path of some good person from ancient history. If you really want to follow in the path of these ancient “good people” like Jesus, Mohamed, Moses, Buddha, Confucius, and Lao-tzu, then you can’t simply seek to follow in their
words or in their foot steps. You can’t walk in their footsteps because they lived in a different world. Likewise, you can’t simply follow their words, because they spoke in a different context which was relevant to the situations in their time. None the less, truth which penetrates through to the infinite is timeless. So, I say don’t seek to follow in their foot steps, seek what they sought and your own path will unfold before you. Do not simply submit your self to a religion because it is morally fashionable, only to completely disregard the morality you claim to cling to in your daily actions. Embark own your own personal journey to discover what is true for you, and if it leads you to the place of transcendence then your morality will blossom like a well nurture flower. I don’t mean to suggest that religion is a perquisite for morality because it certainly is not. I’m just saying at the very least, take the time and make the effort to go deeper into your own religion, because all roads lead to Rome. No pun about Roman Catholicism intended, but it fits lol.We claim one religion or the other, largely based on what our environment projects on us as children.
